Young in heart Doğan Şahin, striked out from Maltepe- Dragos coast to Büyükada on July 20 to cheer up the bypasses patients. 74 years old Doğan Şahin whom to vein were bypassed in the USA in 1996, swam the line of 8 km in three hours and 40 minutes under the supervision of Prof Dr Bingür Sönmez.
Şahin expressed his objective as "to give the message of - life goes on, is not over - to the people who stepped aside after the bypass surgery".

ITU 1954 graduate Senior Engineer Doğan Şahin had chosen the sport as a lifestyle at every stage of his life and today also he provides services to sport as a manager and an active sportsman with his successful works.
Şahin who still does jet-ski all year round, has been successful at this spor brach also.

He has sailed in the I.T.U. sailing team between 1950- 1954, he has played football and rowed in the rowing club. While he does most of the water sports, he has the following degrees at the marathon swimming branch:
